People often forget about their cuticles when they think of nail care. Many people don’t realize just how much healthy cuticles go hand in hand with healthy nails. Cuticles are incredibly important for a number of reasons. The cuticle is the piece of skin that connects you nails. It’s also a protective barrier. The cuticle covers the cells that help to grow and build your nails. Not caring for you cuticles can lead to unhealthy nails and in the worst case, bad cuticle care could cause infections.

So what can you do to keep your cuticles in good shape? Read on and find out!

Do not cut your cuticles. Do not bite them. Do not do anything that involves removing that skin from your body. Your cuticles protect your nails and when you cut them off you lose that protection. They act as a barrier to bacteria. Without your cuticles you are much more susceptible to getting infections in your nails.

Instead of cutting your cuticles, push them back. Cuticles are difficult to push back when they are dry, and it can sometimes even be painful to push them. To help make pushing them back easier, it is best to do it when your cuticles are moist. The best time to do any pushing would be directly after a shower. Another thing you could do is soak your hands in warm water for a couple of minutes. There are also products known as cuticle removers. They do not remove your cuticles, but they help make them soft so that they can be pushed back with ease.

Use an orange stick to push your cuticles back. Remember to be gentle with this sensitive area. You do not want to cause any damage. You can move the orange stick in circles around the base of your nail to get rid of dead cuticle skin. When finished, use a wipe to clean up your nails

Moisturize and then moisturize again. Cuticles can become dry very easily, so it’s important to keep them hydrated. There are several products that are specifically for keeping your cuticles healthy, but any high quality hand moisturizer will also do the trick. Moisturize your hands on a daily basis. It only takes a couple of seconds, so there is no excuse not to do it. It is also a great idea to moisturize your cuticles if you have just pushed them back.

If you take care of your cuticles your hands will look great. You’ll even notice that your nails in general look better and healthier. Don’t forget your cuticles!
