Tips for mastering acrylic nails at home

  • Patience is the key when learning the right technique for applying acrylic nails. It’s going to be complicated the first time you do it, but after a few tries, you’ll start to get the hang of it.
  • Roughen up your nail bed to make sure that the acrylic materials have texture to adhere to.
  • Trim your natural nails before applying the tips, that way, your natural nail tips won’t be visible underneath.
  • Clean your hands completely and tend to your cuticles as well. You want to have a perfect canvas to work with.
  • Pre trim the nail tips before you begin gluing them on. It will be harder to work on all your nails if they are out of control long.
  • Get help from videos. If the instructions included in the set you’ve purchased aren’t adequate, Youtube is a great source of helpful tutorials.
  • Don’t mix and match products. Aside from the tips, mixing powders and liquids from different brands is going to leave you with strange results. When you find a brand you like, stick with it. If you try something new, don’t combine it with your other leftovers.

While you’re probably not going to end up with the same quality as you would from going to the salon, it can be a lot of fun to learn to do this sort of thing on your own. Since most of the sets come with enough materials for multiple applications, you’ll save some money doing it at home. Keep working at it, and you’ll have fabulous nails.
